So, we went to Heidelberg yesterday, and today we were in Speyer for the Brezelfest (Pretzel Festival!). I’m currently sitting in the interweb tunnel waiting for a download to finish, so I probably am not doing to blog it all up at the moment. Perhaps tomorrow I will go to the nice internet cafe in Mannheim, though tomorrow might be laundry day (in the bathroom sink!) or grocery day (at the store that sells popcorn!). I haven’t even really looked through the photos from Heidelberg and the Pretzel Parade, so they will have to wait as well. The shocking news of the week is that I ran into someone I knew in Heidelberg. A friend of Xtine’s and Anna’s, Wes 08, Norwell MA, history student of one Mr. Kenslea. So that was pretty odd. But that’s how many Americans there are in Heidelberg- I KNEW one of them. It’s also weirdly obvious from the souvenir stands in Heidelberg that they expect to be the only city in Germany that people visit: they have Neuschwannstein (Disney Castle) postcards even though it’s hours away in a different state, and lots of dolls wearing traditional clothing…from other parts of Germany. I got kinda self-righteous about it…and then I bought a Neuschwannstein shot glass because I didn’t get one when I was there. I’ve started buying shot glasses with city seals on them, which I’m excited about. Worms’ has a dragon on it.
ooh, download finished, back into the warmth of the interior.
